Construction underway for polar bear rescue centre in Winnipeg 08 Jun 2010 There’s been a "snow-turning" in Winnipeg at the site of what officials say will be a world-class international polar bear conservation centre. The facility at the Assiniboine Park Zoo will provide a home for orphaned, injured or problem polar bears. ...The Manitoba government is putting up a total of $31 million for the centre, which is intended to serve as the headquarters of Polar Bears International.

'US troops kill 5 Iraqi bystanders' 12 Jun 2010 Five Iraqis who were standing on their rooftop witnessing the arrival of US infantrymen have lost their lives after their house was attacked by the troops. The Friday attack took place in al-Khanafsa area, south of Baghdad and near the holy city of Karbala, witnesses said, according to Reuters. "The US troops came from here on foot patrol…," said one witness. "When they arrived, a man went to the roof of his house to look at them, they intentionally opened fire at him as they saw him and his wife who went upstairs to check what happened..."
