Hurricane Irma strengthens into a category FIVE storm with winds up to 185 mph as it heads for the east coast of America --Hurricane Irma strengthened to a Category 5 storm on Tuesday | 05 Sept 2017 | Hurricane Irma strengthened into a dangerous Category 5 storm Tuesday as it roared toward the northeast Caribbean on a path that could take it to the United States. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Irma had sustained winds of 185mph and was centered about 270 miles east of Antigua. It was moving west at 14 mph. That makes Irma the second strongest hurricane ever recorded in the North Atlantic, behind 1980's Hurricane Allen.
