Ever-worsening Hurricane Irma is upgraded AGAIN to Category 3 a day ahead of schedule as forecasters warn it will be 'extremely dangerous' - and may hit the Carolinas in ten days --Irma was upgraded to Cat. 2 storm Thursday then Cat. 3 just hours later | 31 Aug 2017 | Hurricane Irma has been upgraded for the second time Thursday and is now at Category 3 strength as it continues its voyage westward over the Atlantic Ocean. Its winds are now blowing at a sustained 115mph, Pix11 reported. Irma was already upgraded from tropical storm to Category 2 hurricane on Thursday, and wasn't expected to reach Category 3 until Friday. It is projected to speed up to Category 4 status - meaning winds of 130mph - by Tuesday. Worse, one of its possible flight paths would put it on a collision course with the Carolinas by the Sunday after, Click Orlando reported.
