Brown to quit as Labour leader

Breaking: Brown to quit as Labour leader 10 May 2010 Gordon Brown has sensationally revealed his intention to quit as Labour leader. In a speech on the steps of 10 Downing Street, the PM said his party will elect a new leader by the time of its next conference in September. But he will not stand or back any particular candidates. He added Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has approached Labour about entering "formal negotiations" on forming a coalition government.
